+Energy is a volunteer organization dedicated to building a nation-wide community of college students working together to fight cancer.
+Energy unites and empowers college students in their initiatives to fight cancer through public awareness, patient support, and fundraising programs.
+Energy was established in 1999 at the University of Virginia (UVA) under the name Fighting, Overcoming, and Responding to Cancer Everywhere (F.O.R.C.E.). Two undergraduate students, each touched separately by cancer in family and friends, joined together in an effort to fight back. They developed what is now +Energy, an organization designed to enable college students and faculty to directly help those suffering from cancer by providing patient support, increasing public awareness, and raising charitable funds.
Through their hard work and determination, the UVA +Energy chapter quickly developed into a strong and resourceful group. This chapter has supported countless patients in the Charlottesville, Virginia community, educated students and faculty about cancer risks and preventative techniques, and directly raised over $100,000 for the UVA Cancer Center and other cancer-fighting organizations. In addition, the chapter has developed key community partnerships, established itself as a proactive force at the UVA Cancer Center, and earned the reputation of a strong and reliable student organization.
After eight years as a UVA student organization, +Energy made the decision to expand nationally in 2007. Now, students at colleges and universities across the country can start their own +Energy chapters and join the fight against cancer.
